Fast Five ~ Ties & Whimsy

Posted by on Jan 6, 2012 in Fast Five | 0 comments

Who are you?

I’m Alisa and my repurposed fashion accessory business is called Ties&Whimsy. I am inspired by vibrant colours and beautiful textures and I love unique, quirky recreations of everyday objects. I was inspired to start my business by the craft and vintage markets I visited living in London and wanted to bring my sense of individual style back home to Brisbane.

What do you do?

I have studied a couple of different varieties of designing beginning with an undergraduate degree in Architecture after finishing high school. After taking some time out to travel I came to realise I wanted something more hands on that I could be involved in making rather than just designing. I am currently completing my Masters in Visual Arts majoring in design and running Ties&Whimsy at the same time. Designing for Ties&Whimsy I use recycled vintage ties, buttons, lace and whatever else I find to create my tie necklaces. I love designing from vintage materials as each piece is unique and gives me a chance to play with matching colours and textures and embellishments to bring out the best in each tie.

What makes you happy?

Creating, experiencing something or somewhere for the first time, a powerful thunderstorm after a sweltering summer day, a meal cooked with love, the sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

My dream is…

To experience all life has to offer and contribute something of beauty to the world.
